The Japanese Black Pine (Pinus thunbergii), a native of Japan and Korea, is the quintesential species of outdoor bonsai. Japanese black pine is known for its dense, vibgrant green needles, ability to bud back from old wood, and for its ability to reduce needle length with proper pruning and care. As an outdoor species (hardy to USDA zones 5-8), these trees must be kept dormant during the winter season. Durring the summer, they prefer full sun.

These pre-bonsai trees are growing in #1 containers, and wired to develop a curvy trunk to promote an interesting trunk to develop as further as a bonsai.
