The River Birch (Betula nigra) is a beautiful deciduous tree native to the eastern USA. Thriving in full sun to light shade with plenty of water, it's hardy to zone 4-9. This species is known for its beautiful exfoliating bark, which peels away in layers to reveal a cinnamon-colored inner bark. In the fall, the River Birch color fades to bright yellow-gold foliage.
 
This pre-bonsai is 2-3 years old, growing in a traditional #1 nursery pot, and has and wired and pruned throughout the year to promote lower, more interesting trunk and branching structure. Great for those wanting to developing further as a bonsai.
