Variegated Dwarf Jade Starter
Variegated Dwarf Jade (Portulacaria afra 'Variegata') Starter in 4" Pot
Variegated Dwarf Jade is a hardy, drought-tolerant succulent with small, round, cream-and-green variegated leaves that create a striking visual contrast. Unlike the common Jade (Crassula ovata), Portulacaria afra has thinner branches and a faster growth rate, making it well-suited for bonsai training. Its ability to store water in its trunk and branches allows it to thrive with minimal care.
As a Bonsai:
A fantastic choice for both beginners and experienced growers, Variegated Dwarf Jade is easy to shape and responds well to pruning. It develops thick, gnarled trunks over time, and its woody branches can be trained into dynamic forms. Wiring should be done with care, as branches can be brittle. Prefers drier conditions and benefits from a light touch with watering.
📢 This is a tropical species—it should be grown outdoors during the warmer months but brought indoors when night temperatures drop below ~50°F.
