The Yamadori (Forest Collection) Bonsai Adventure is the most treacherous and challenging bonsai workshop we offer! Join us at BlackRoot Farms as we explore 30 acres of woodlands to hunt for a wild and unique tree to bonsai! We only offer these workshops in Late February through early April, so don’t miss out!

What to expect:

1. Brief introduction to what Yamadori is, what to look for, and some rules during our tree-hunt.

2. Guided hike through the 30 acres of woods to find a suitable tree. I’ll be your guide showing you some of the more promising areas, and demonstrate the process of selecting a tree, cutting it back, and digging it to maximize its chance of thriving as a Yamadori bonsai!

3. You’ll be set loose to find a Yamadori Bonsai to collect!

4. We’ll take your treasure back to the nursery and I’ll walk you through the process of potting it, and provide care instructions to maximize its health and development.

5. Once you’re done potting, its time to take your future masterpiece home!

Ticket Information:

We offer three ticket options:

1. Small Yamadori ($189) – includes one small (<2” Yamadori)

2. Large Yamadori ($249) – includes one large (2-4” Yamadori)

Adventure Warning:

This workshop is intended to be a little challenging. Digging yamadori requires digging by hand, so expect to be on your knees on the wet, cold, and perhaps slightly frozen snow. Dress accordingly and eat your Wheaties.

Weather Cancelations:

We can only offer these workshops when the ground is sufficiently thawed for digging without killing the trees. The exact date of when the ground becomes sufficiently thawed for digging is always different, which may require us to reschedule. We recommend choosing workshops earlier in the season, as we close yamadori season once the leaves are out on the trees. We also may cancel in the case of severe storms, heavy rain/snow, or unsafe road conditions. In such cases we will contact you to reschedule the event or to apply your ticket fees to nursery credit (which applies to any products, future workshops, or services). We do not offer refunds for weather-related cancelations.
