American Elm Pre-bonsai - One of a Kind (01)

One of a Kind American Elm (Ulmus americana) Pre-bonsai in 8" Training Pot (01)

This American Elm carries a straight, upright trunk with balanced taper and a vigorous canopy of fresh growth. At the base, a gnarly root system pushes real character, with heavy surface roots twisting over each other and anchoring the tree with a strong presence. It’s a lively pre-bonsai with both structure and attitude, giving you a great head start for refinement.

Species Description
American elm is a classic native tree with an iconic vase-shaped growth habit and strong branching that adapts surprisingly well to bonsai. All our American elms comes are seedlings from a mature mother tree 30+ year old tree on the nursery, notable for its reliable bright yellow fall color and no signs of Dutch elm disease, so it may have some natural resistance. With training, it develops fine ramification and a graceful yet rugged character that captures the spirit of an old elm on the landscape. Native American Elms are becoming increasingly rare in nurseries, but we're keeping the species growing as bonsai!
