Crape Myrtle 'Hopi' Starter
Crape Myrtle ‘Hopi’ (Lagerstroemia indica × fauriei)
‘Hopi’ is a dwarf hybrid crape myrtle known for its soft pink flowers, mottled bark, and compact, multi-stemmed growth. Unlike full-sized varieties, ‘Hopi’ stays small and manageable, making it a good candidate for container growing or larger bonsai styles. Its peeling bark and long blooming period add year-round interest.
As a Bonsai:
While not a traditional bonsai species, ‘Hopi’ offers plenty to work with—attractive exfoliating bark, strong branch structure, and vigorous regrowth after pruning. Leaf size isn’t tiny, so it’s best suited for larger bonsai styles, especially for growers who enjoy flowering trees with bold summer color.
📢 This is a cold-hardy species—it requires a winter dormancy and should be kept outside year-round. In locations with extreme cold, we recommend placing it on the ground, mulching around the pot, and protecting it from wind.Additional cold protection may be necessary for Crape Myrtles depending on your climate.
