These Dawn Redwood prebonsai feature curved trunks that provide a starting point for future styling. They are ready for continued trunk thickening, branch selection, and canopy development. Individual trees vary in size and shape.

Dawn Redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides) is a deciduous conifer valued for its soft, feathery foliage, rapid growth, and reddish-brown bark that develops texture with age. Its vigorous growth makes it rewarding to develop as bonsai, while its foliage turns coppery bronze in fall before dropping for winter.

Care Notes

  • Light: Full sun, ideally at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily.

  • Water: Keep consistently moist. Check daily during warm weather and water thoroughly before the root ball dries out; this species can be very thirsty.

  • Fertilizer: Fertilize regularly throughout the growing season to support healthy growth and trunk development.

📢 Cold-Hardy to zone 4—it requires a winter dormancy and should be kept outside year-round. In locations with extreme cold, we recommend placing it on the ground, mulching around the pot, and protecting it from wind.
