Dwarf Japanese Maple Starter
Dwarf Japanese Maple (Acer palmatum) Starters
These starters come from a dwarf selection of Japanese Maple, grown from cuttings and selected for their tight internodes, small leaves, and compact structure. Unlike more vigorous maples that need constant taming, these naturally stay tight and tidy—making them ideal for refined bonsai work or anyone wanting to start a small-scale tree with high potential. These are an un-named variety (no cultivar name).
As a Bonsai:
These have never been wired and have been grown with a clip-and-grow approach, allowing clean movement and early refinement. Their compact growth makes them perfect for smaller bonsai styles where leaf size and internode distance really matter. Fall color can vary, but most show vibrant reds or oranges.
📢 This is a cold-hardy species—it requires a winter dormancy and should be kept outside year-round. In locations with extreme cold, we recommend placing it on the ground, mulching around the pot, and protecting it from wind.
