Green Island ficus (Ficus microcarpa ‘Green Island’) is a compact tropical evergreen prized for its small, thick, rounded leaves and naturally dense growth habit. Compared with many other Ficus microcarpa forms, ‘Green Island’ tends to produce shorter internodes and compact branching, making it particularly well suited to smaller-scale bonsai development. It responds strongly to pruning, backbuds readily, and can develop dense ramification with repeated trimming. With vigorous growth, trunks and surface roots thicken steadily, while the compact foliage makes it relatively easy to maintain convincing proportions.
