Procumbens Nana
Procumbens nana Juniper (Juniperus procumbens 'Nana') Starter in 4" Pot
A classic species for bonsai, Procumbens nana is a low-growing, dense evergreen with fine, needle-like foliage and a naturally compact form. It is highly adaptable, thrives in outdoor conditions, and develops textured bark and strong branching over time, making it a favorite among bonsai growers.
As a Bonsai:
One of the most popular choices for bonsai, Juniperus procumbens 'Nana' is easy to shape and responds well to pruning and wiring. It is particularly suited for cascade, semi-cascade, and windswept styles due to its naturally trailing growth. Unlike some other junipers, procumbens nana can backbud on old wood, allowing for better long-term refinement and branch selection.
📢 This is a cold-hardy species—it requires a winter dormancy and should be kept outside year-round. In locations with extreme cold, we recommend placing it on the ground, mulching around the pot, and protecting it from wind.
