Oriental ficus (Ficus benjamina ‘Orientalis’) is a tropical evergreen with relatively small, glossy leaves and a naturally dense, branching growth habit. Its fine foliage and flexible young shoots make it well suited to compact tree forms, while vigorous growth under warm conditions allows trunks and branch structure to develop relatively quickly. It responds well to regular pruning and develops increasingly dense ramification over time. Unlike some other commonly grown ficus species, Ficus benjamina is less reliable when branches are pruned back completely bare, so retaining foliage during major reductions generally produces more predictable results.
