‘Seiju’ Chinese Elm Bonsai

‘Seiju’ Chinese elm (Ulmus parvifolia ‘Seiju’) is a prized dwarf cultivar known for its exceptionally compact growth, tiny textured leaves, and naturally dense branching habit. Its slow, tight internode development allows growers to create highly refined bonsai proportions much earlier than with standard Chinese elm varieties.

As the tree matures, it develops rugged bark and intricate ramification that give even young specimens an aged appearance. ‘Seiju’ responds very well to pruning and clip-and-grow techniques, producing dense pads and fine twigging ideal for shohin and small to medium bonsai designs. Its naturally compact habit makes it especially desirable for growers seeking refined bonsai aesthetics without excessive leaf reduction work.

This cultivar is vigorous, adaptable, and highly tolerant of training, making it suitable for both beginners and advanced bonsai enthusiasts focused on refinement and detail.
