Seven Son Flower Starter in 4" Pot
Seven Son Flower (Heptacodium miconioides) is a fast-growing shrub or small tree that’s still uncommon in bonsai, but worth experimenting with. It develops attractive peeling bark and carries medium-sized leaves that lend themselves best to larger bonsai or specimen-style training. What sets it apart is the late-season display—clusters of fragrant white flowers in late summer, followed by striking pink-red calyxes that extend the show into fall.
Growth: Vigorous, fast to bulk up
Water: Heavy drinker; water regularly and thoroughly
Light: Full sun; appreciates part shade in hottest summer weeks
Fertilizer: Moderate
Hardiness: Zone 5–9
Cold-hardy species — requires a winter dormancy and should be kept outside year-round. In areas with extreme cold, place pots on the ground, mulch around them, and protect from wind.
